How the LIV & PGA Merger is Shaping the Future of Professional Golf

The future of LIV Golf and the PGA TOUR's relationship still remains complicated. However in June 2023 an announcement of a merge between The PGA TOUR, LIV Golf and the DP World Tour was announced, leaving shockwaves across the game of golf.

The new entity, which is unnamed, has been designed to oversee the commercial side of golf. The entity is said to be combining all the resources of The DP World Tour, The PGA TOUR and also LIV Golf. The Saudi's PIF is said to be the financial backing in this new venture. Having the Saudi's allows for larger sums of capital to invest in tournaments, prize purses and also player benefits. 


During this merge, the PGA will still retain some control over the sport. Jay Monohan will be the new CEO of the entity, this was put in place to ensure the traditions of golf and PGA leadership remain. However, the PIF will hold a significant stake in the new company and shows the future of Western sports collaborating with Middle Eastern investments.


Furthermore, this merge ended all litigations that were going on with LIV and the PGA TOUR. Both entities had been in dispute with lawsuits over player contracts since the creation of LIV


Confirmed recently, PGA stars Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler will be teeing up together against LIV stars Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka in a match to be played in Las Vegas in December of this year. The aim is to get fans excited and to put on a great show. This shows a further insight into how the future of golf may look with LIV Golf and the PGA TOUR coexisting.
