LIV Golf in 2024

LIV Golf is professional golf tour that was established in 2022, having being backed by Saudi investments. The tour aims to modernise and reinvent the game of golf for years to come. Building on existing formats, LIV aims to engage a new generation of golfers by blending their unique traditions with innovative approaches, bringing fans closer to the game and sparking excitement among younger audiences.

LIV GOLF PRIZE MONEY & FORMAT

One of the main differences with LIV Golf is the amount of holes they play each tournament compared to the PGA Tour. LIV Golf has 54 holes over 3 rounds instead of the traditional 72. This further supports LIV's goal of transforming golf into a shorter, faster-paced sport that new fans can easily enjoy. 

Furthermore, there is no cut in LIV Golf, LIV implemented this as it ensures every player gets to play all 3 rounds and fans have a guarantee of seeing marquee names. Shotgun starts have also been a change LIV Golf have made to the traditional format. Shotgun starts involve each player start their round simultaneously, with each player being on a different tee box around the golf course. This has a positive impact on fans  as they don't need to wait for staggered tee times and can follow the action as it unfolds. 

Having being backed by Saudi's there is a huge cash sum on the line for the players in these tournaments. For each event on the roster there can be upwards of $20 million on the line, in addition, they exclusion of the cut ensures the lower finishing players of a payout. 

Another standout change LIV Golf has made is adding live music being played at each hole. Unlike the PGA Tour, where fans are told to remain quiet at all times, LIV play music over loud speakers on each hole. LIV even have dedicated holes named 'party holes' where fans can make as much noise as they want and throw drinks into the air in celebration if a good shot is played. Which can be seen below.

Schedule

LIV's schedule is significantly smaller than that of the PGA Tour, with LIV racking up only 14 events over a calendar year compared to the 50 of the PGA tour. The players who decide to join LIV accept lucrative contacts which ties them to the tour. It means they get to play in every tournament and have no pressure to retain tour cards. Furthermore, having only 14 events a year allows players to have more downtime to relax and prepare for future competitions and enjoy time with loved ones.
